I promise I didn't drop off the earth after my last post. My family got the "sick bug". First it started Wednesday night with Trinity, Friday night with me (took me till today to feeling normal), Saturday my mom (who normally babysits) and my husband (Trinity had her first spend the night away from home), Sunday my dad (Trinity was over at there house last week) and then today my mother-in-law (she kept Trinity Saturday when both me and my husband was running fevers). I promise I will be back on as soon as everybody is well again.

One good thing (I think?) I did loose 6 pounds during this sickness! At least there is something from it.....Now if it will just not return!!!!!!!!

I am ashamed

This is a rare thing for me....to let down my guard.....to be vulnerable..to confess....but I am ashamed.

When I graduated high school I weighted a mere 96 pounds. I remember folks would fuss at me that I needed to put some "meat on my bones". 22 years later and fixing to turn "40" this year, I realize that I don't think they meant this much "meat".

I have allowed myself to play games with my health. Using the excuse that tomorrow I would start to watch what I eat, to exercise, to get healthy. I have lied to myself for so long that I'm so overwhelmed with what is really in front of me.

Its not a mid-life crisis...its tired of being tired all the time, being winded when I play with my little girl, climbing up the steps to church and feeling like I need a break, of my knees and back hurting, of not being in the mood, of being worried if the chest pain and tightening I'm feeling is a heart attack, worrying that I've got diabetes like my parents, worrying if I will see my daughter grow up, and the list goes on.

I've yo-yo diet for so long, not sticking with anything....in my head I know what I need to do - its just getting it out without becoming so overwhelmed that I want to throw in the towel immediately.

I was reading a blog post this morning from a few days ago, Prior Fat Girl and she said the following:

"A raw moment in life when all of a sudden, I realized that I was responsible for who I am. I allowed myself to look in the mirror and stop playing games. I started to fight because I knew I had no other option. It was either allow myself to continue to complain about how unhappy I was…or do something about it.
I started my healthiness journey because I had a choice. As I sit here today, I am reminded about why this healthiness journey is so important. I am reminded about why I began, and why forever, it is important for me to keep close to my heart, those feelings about why I started."

Unfortunately I haven't started but everything she said made sense.....I do need to stop playing game with my health/weight. I need to start to fight. There is no other option. I must do something about it. I have a choice.

At this point I am sad, I am hurt, I am mad - I am ashamed.

I am hoping that it takes these feelings to fire me up and get me off my butt and do something about it. About all this weight, about being unhealthy.

So now I am face with the overwhelming thought "what is the starting point".................any suggestions?

With the new addition in the family, 2010 was very busy! I know I let several months pass since I've last updated.

Trinity Update:
She turned one in November. She's walking and playing. Her smile and laughter just brightens my day! She has brought our whole family closer together. She is definitely a gift from God!

Mike:
He's now been working at BevAir since June. He really likes it and has met some great folks. He started going to Eternity Bible College online and just finished his first semester this past December. Second semester will be starting in a few weeks. He hasn't decided if he is just going for the 2 year degree or the 4 year. God has been using him in so many avenues....He helps out with the teen group on Wednesday nites at church, He spoke at a benefit show the teens put on to raise money for their mission trip in June, and he will be going this month to Asheboro to speak at a get-together for a group of X-box players. I can't wait to see what all God has in store for him in 2011.

Me:
Still working as practice manager. I still yearn to be a stay at home mom and housewife. I know that God will grant this to me when the time is right. So for now I patiently (well I try most of the time!!!) wait. Both work and home life have taken up most of my time so life is pretty humdrum for me at the moment. This can be good though.............

We really haven't set any goals for 2011.....just:
- get healthy! We both have gained quite abit of our weight back. It from having such a busy lifestyle that we eat out alot!!
- get closer to being debt free! (This will help with my desire too!)
- spend as much time as possible with our little girl! (She's growing way too fast!)

I know each time I promise to blog sooner........well its been awhile. Sorry!

Life just never slows down for anything!

Our sweet girl is now 5 months old and growing like a weed! It seems every time I blink she is doing something new. She now has her bottom 2 teeth and we think the top two are coming in but it seems to be taking longer than the bottom ones did. She is rolling all over the place and will soon be sitting up by herself. Every workday it is so hard to leave! But I know she is in good hands....her daddys!

Being which.....hubby's hunt for another engineering job still hasn't turned up anything. We stay in contact with the recuiters but nothing that doesn't consist of a 2 hour drive or either being away from us for 3 months! Not an option.

My work however is still going strong! We will be bringing a new doctor on board in August! This should give my over-worked doc a break!

All the animals are doing well and we have now laid hardwood floors in all the room but our master bed and master bath. The weather here seem to go straight from winter to summer! Next week I'm hoping we get to plant our garden!

Guess I'll go for now....I'm not going to promise I'll be back soon - seems like every time I do...I lie! So I do know that I have some new pics that I need to upload so maybe............................

Browsing thru some blogs and found this wonderful recipe for homemade oreo cookies from Sisters Cafe!!

Homemade Oreo Cookiessubmitted by Melanie

For the Cookies:
1 package devil's food cake mix
2 eggs
1/2 - cup oil

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Add oil and eggs to cake mix and blend together. Roll dough into balls (a little larger than a quarter). Place on greased cookie sheet. Bake for 8 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool on sheet (until warm). Remove cookies from sheet and place on cooling rack.To assemble the cookies, add about a tablespoon of filling into the center of one cookie. Place another cookie similar in size on top of the filling. Lightly press, to work the filling evenly to the outsides of the cookie. Continue this process until all the cookies have been sandwiched with cream.

Cream Cheese Filling Recipe:

1/2 cup butter (1 stick)
1 block of cream cheese (8 oz)
3-4 cups - powdered sugar (depending on desired consistency)
1 - tsp vanilla extract

Cream butter and add cream cheese and mix well. Add powdered sugar slowly until you reach your desired consistency.

Rough Week, Snow and Remainder of Recipes

Well this week proved to be a very "rough" week at work. I really try to leave work stuff at work - the problem is that this week I rarely got home before 6:30pm! Ugh! Hopefully next week will be better!

We did get some major SNOW beginning on Friday afternoon - don't know what the exact amount is - news says 6+ inches! Didn't get out in it....it will be another year or so before Trinity gets excited about it. However our other baby (Nikki - the dog) LOVED, LOVED, LOVED it! I'll try to post some pictures soon! She stayed outside more than she did in. Her paw prints are all over the front yard!

We ended up not having spaghetti/meatballs on Wednesday night - I got home at 7pm so we just heated up some frozen pizza and salad. We did have Sweet n' Sour Chicken in the crockpot with rice (recipe below) on Thursday, leftovers on Friday, and then I made Taco Soup on Saturday. Today we are going to do more leftovers! Going to work on next weeks plan later tonight...........Enjoy!

Crockpot Sweet n' Sour Chicken

4-6 boneless, skinless chicken breast, cut into bite size pieces
5 oz sweet n sour sauce
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp onion powder
8 oz pineapple chuncks in their own juice, drain, reserve 1/4 cup
1 Tablespoon brown sugar
bag of frzen veggies your choice

Spray crockpot with cooking spray. Add chicken, garlic powder, and onion powder to crockpot. Stir sauce, pineapple chunks, brown sugar, and reserved juice into chicken mixture in crockpot. Cover and cook for 6-7 hours on low. Add vegetables and cook for 30 more minutes on high.

Tuesday's Meal and Recipes

Crockpot Salsa Chicken

4-6 frozen chicken breast
1 can of black beans
3/4 large jar of salsa (any brand, mild, medium, or hot)
1 block of cream cheese

Spray crockpot with Pam cooking spray. Lay frozen (or thawed) chicken breast in bottom of crockpot. Top with black beans. (Can add a can of drained corn if wanted!) Pour salsa on top. Cook for 6-7 1/2 hours on low (or 4 hours on high). Stir mixture. Add 1 block of cream cheese and cook on low for another 30 minutes. Stir together and serve.

We are going to serve with brown rice (90 minute microwavable type!), broccoli (nuked in microwave) and a salad.

Here are the recipes for tomorrow night!

Crockpot Beef Tips

1 1/2 pounds lean stew beef
1 can 98% fat free cream of mushroom soup
1 package of Liptons onion soup mix
1 can diet sprite or 7-up

Stir mushroom soup and the Liptons onion soup mix together. Put lean stew beef in bottom of crockpot. Pour soup mixture over meat. Add diet drink. Cook in crockpot on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 4 hours. Turn off and let sit for 30 minutes before serving. Note: (Can add vegetables to this if wanted!)

Corn Casserole

1 can of cream corn
1 can of corn, drained
2 green onions, chopped (white and green stem part)
2 Tablespoons flour
1 whole egg, slightly beaten
1/4 cup of crushed crackers of your choice (Ritz, Butter, etc)
Black pepper

I made this up the night before so that hubby could just stick in the oven 30 minutes before I came home. I also used the new Flatbread garlic zesty crackers on top instead of Ritz.

Stir together cream corn and flour. Add the drained regular corn, onions, egg, and pepper. Spray baking dish and pour mixture into bowl. Add crushed crackers on top. Backe in a 350 degree oven for 30 minutes or until set.

For the Green Beans with Stew Tomatoes, we just opened up a can of french cut green beans and a can of my mom's canned stewed tomatoes and just cooked together.

If hubby gets a chance, he may cook up a pan of Jiffy cornbread!

After a crazy, crazy week with emotions being up and down. We took a time out, went through our coupons, came up with next weeks menu and went to the grocery store. I've already got most of tomorrow evenings meal ready to go.......just heat and serve! It feels good to be ahead alittle!

Oh yeah.....it feels really good to have saved $116 at the grocery store! $74 in manufacturers coupons and the rest in Food Lion MVP savings! Soooooo cooooolllll!

Monday: Crockpot Beef Tips, Corn Casserole, Green Beans with Stewed Tomatoes
Tuesday: Crockpot Salsa Chicken, Rice, Broccoli, Salad
Wednesday: Spaghetti and Meatballs and Ceaser Salad

Friday: French Dip Sandwichs, Baked French Fries

I'll try to post recipes soon! As you can tell we are doing alot of crockpot cooking cause it is something that hubby can have going while tending to our little one! Just makes life easier!

I haven’t been able to write this post until now….it’s just been to hard.

We lost our beloved Carago (our older horse) Monday.

He was tired and age kept him from being able to bounce back this time . It all happened so fast that it seems like a blur.

I haven’t been able to bring myself to even go to the barn since then. I am so thankful for my father who takes care of the horses for us. We were over at my parents house yesterday but I couldn’t even look down at the barn or the pasture. And luckily the horses were in the lower pasture.

I know that I’ve got to move on and face the here and now but right now the hurt is still to fresh. Maybe this weekend I’ll have time to process the emotions.

I do want to thank everyone for the prayers…..even though it’s been hard, I know that he is in heaven running around, eating carrots!

Prayer Request

Hello everyone.....I know some people think praying for animals is senseless and crazy but I don't.

Please pray for me, my husband, our vet and our older horse. He has developed "choke" which is different than human choke. He has feed impacted in his pipe that leads to his stomach. He is 30 years old which is pretty old for a horse so surgery is not an option. The vet has been "tubing" him trying to loosen the impaction and giving him muscle relaxers to help him relax. We really need him to pass this so that he can eat. He is able to breathe - "choke" in horses doesn't effect their breathing.

I just pray that Carago will not suffer, if it meant this is his time, then I want him to go without suffering. This is very hard to say without breaking into tears but he has been a great horse and given us years of love. He has pulled out of many medical situations and I know that God can bring him out of this and if that is God's will, I definately want that!! I just pray for wisdom for myself/husband and for the vet. And I pray for peace for all.

Every year in December I start thinking about the new year coming up and I write up goals/resolutions of things I want to accomplish for the next year, what I want to do, where I want to improve, etc. I usually focus on four main areas: Spiritual, Marriage/Relationships, Finance, and Home. However I had been struggling on developing any for 2010. I would come up with a list and then threw the list away.

Then last Sunday, our preacher’s wife (Jackie) actually gave a message about “Prayers in Agreement”. (To watch message, click here.) She has asked that we join her each month in praying in agreement with her. Imagine if everyone in church was praying everyday for 30 (or however many days in the month) days for the same thing! Wow! Change would have to take place! People would have to be effected!

Praying in agreement! Since Sunday, I’ve really thought about this and about my “goals” for 2010.

This month’s prayer is that “We pray that we won’t substitute any lesser plans for the plans God has for us”. With Scripture reference being Jeremiah 29:11 and Proverbs 19:21

Today I got up before everyone else. The house is quite….. only the hum of the furnace is going (and the continuous beep of the baby monitor! – which is a wonderful, secure feeling!) I sit here really concentrating on this months prayer and Bible verses.

We pray that we won't substitute any lesser
plans for the plans God has for us.

Jeremiah 29:11
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

Proverbs 19:21
Many are the plans in a man's heart, but it is the LORD's purpose that prevails.

My first thoughts about the prayer is that in every area of my life (marriage, family, home, work, etc) I know that I don’t want anything less than God’s plans for me…..I want to follow his will!

Jeremiah 29:11 is a verse that I realize I must repeat to myself constantly…. I’m a planner…I really try to “plan ahead” in life. I know that sometimes my plans are not his plans………..Sometimes its just so hard to release this control!

Then when I read Proverbs 19:21……………..I realize that 2009 it was His plans that prevailed! Not mine! I didn’t get half the stuff on my goal list done.

On Sunday, January 04, 2009 I wrote this on a blog post: “I don't even try to know what 2009 will hold for us but we will continue to trust in Him and lean not into our own understandings. I hope you continue to check in with us....cause I know there will be love and laughter and who knows what else this year!!!!!!!!!!”

That post was an understatement!!!

How do I know that God’s plans prevailed………..

We survived another year on one income! Yeah at times things got tight but that just made us more aware! Aware of our waste, aware of how much money we spend on “stuff” and “junk”, etc.
One of the greatest events of 2009 was that after 8 years of thinking I was never going to get to experience the miracle of childbirth, on February 23rd I found out I was pregnant!
For 9 months I got to “feel” God at work as he created this wonderful little human being in my tummy. I will never forget the first time I felt her move! Even on the 8th and 9th month, when she was “actively moving” and keeping me awake at night– I loved it! I do not understand how you can be pregnant and not believe in God!
The second greatest event in 2009 – November 2nd – the birth of our daughter. For someone who had never been in the hospital, never had surgery, nor had any severe pain – my only concern that morning was that I wanted to hear her cry! Then I would know everything was okay! I was not worried about the needles (I have a huge fear!), the cath, the block, the incision (had a c-section)….I only wanted to hear her!! And boy did she not disappoint me! That girl has a set of lungs! I remember Mike coming into the room, kissing my forehead, the doc saying okay…here we go, and then holding my breath and praying! I begged God to take care of her, to be with her, to let her be healthy, to keep her safe! And then that is when I heard the most precious thing…..her cry…well her screaming!!! I immediately started crying and thanking God! I knew all this was because of HIM! She cried (screamed)for the first 2 hours of being born! I was in recovery and could still hear her in the nursery crying! I’m sure not everybody thought that was a wonderful sound…but this mommy sure did! I had 8 years of want and desire built up in my heart and I know who supplied!! God did!!! God took the love of a husband and wife and created the most precious gift in the world…our little girl! Wow!
There was also so many more things in 2009 that I know God had his hands in….family coming to church, being able to afford to fix up our home, my husband “getting on fire” and raising money for wells, getting to go on vacation with family, Mike getting to go to the Catalyst conference, a wonderful (and easy) 9 months of pregnancy, etc.

But to look back…..No where on my 2009 goal list was any of the above….

I had hoped we would survive financially but I figured (planned) it would be because of a 2nd income. Not because God would provide! That God would make us aware of the waste we did and we would change our lifestyle.
I planned on finding a way to add to our little family by either adopting or fostering a child but never did I expect I would be pregnant with one of my own.

It could just go on…and on….

This past December was a busy month for us. We are still learning about being parents (I’m sure this is something we will continue to do for the next 18+ years!) So I was not able to really come up with any list of goals for 2010.

Then listening to Jackie Sunday and studying the first prayer and Bible verses….I realize that I don’t want to quickly jot down some goals/expectations for the new year that I want.

I want to pray about it, to allow God to show me where he wants me to be, where he wants my family to be. I want to “remove” Sherlyn from the equation and let God be fully in control!

So for now…..I do not have a list of goals for the new year! I think this year will definitely be a year of learning and growing – what with the new role of mommy – it’s a guarantee! So you will just have to wait along with me to see what God has in store for us…………..

I do know that God wants me to (1) Grow closer to him and be obedient to him, (2) to concentrate on my marriage and family, (3) to serve and love others, and (4) to be a good steward of what he provides me.

So I guess in a way I do still have 4 areas of concentration….just don’t know all the details or plans. But as I study his word, rely on him, pray and work as a helpmate beside my husband….He will show me His plans! He will show me where I need to be, what I need to change, how I can improve………I’ll keep you posted…………….

I hate pictures of myself and yet I'm getting ready to do something that I hope is going to help me stay accountable. I joined the "Pound for Pound" Challenge and pledged to loose 30 pounds by the end of June. (You can view my ticker at the bottom to see how I am doing!)

Here is a picture of me in April 2009 (2 months pregnant), end of October (9 months pregnant) and now (taken just last week). Along with my weigh posted.

Prior to being pregnant, my weigh yo-yoed (is that a word?) from 165 to 175. Up and Down, Up and Down. I gained a total of 15 pounds during my pregnancy and as mentioned in other post, I dealt with gestastional diabetes and after giving birth with high blood pressure. At this time both are gone! Yeah!

However with both my parents being diabetics, I really need to get a grip on my weight. I want to be a positive influence on my daughter so I figured now is the time (while she is still an infant) to change my eating habits, get more active, and to loose weight. So that as she gets older I can be a positve role model!!

I haven't posted my 2010 goals but will shortly which will give more detail as to how I plan to "Take Control" and loose weight!!

Since January 1st, I've lost 2.5 pounds! Yeah!! Kudos!!!

Better Late than Never

This was Trinity's first Christmas and I had a blast decorating her room for the holidays. Here's some pics:

Here is her pimped out Christmas Tree - I used hot pink feather boas as garland. We bought the tree 2 years ago after Christmas to use in the kitchen (now its Trinity's tree), I got the topper at Dollar Tree - it was silver and I painted it with pink glitter glue. The silver circles on the tree (don't know if you can see them or not) were braclets that came with the boas (Dollar General in the little girls toy area!) and I had the silver balls last year for the tree.

And here's the tree after "Santa Claus" came with Trinity's loot!

Here is the wreath above her bed - again made with feather boas and I got the "HoHoHo" sign at Dollar Tree!!!

And here is some foam snowflakes (also Dollar Tree) that I hung from her curtain rod with ribbon!

The rest of the house unfortunately didn't get decorated as good! But we spent most of the time in her room anyway! Maybe next year the rest of the house will be just as good!!!

Well 12 weeks (at the most???) Is what we have to get things done before "life as we know it" takes a major change (but as a welcoming change!)

We've already had 6 months and well.....time has escaped us! A lot of the projects have been overwhelming, so we keep putting them off and putting them off and well...most of the time I've just been too tired!

Unfortunately we can no longer procrastinate!!! Tick - Tock - Tick - Tock!!!!

This past week (and probably next week too) we've focused on learning and dealing with gestational diabetes and working the requirements into our life (meal planning and choices, times and values of fingersticks, etc). I know my hubby hopes to get a few more weekends of ball playing in and we are hoping to go to the beach for the weekend soon. So with all these wants running head on into the have tos and needs - a plan of action is not just needed but required!!!!

so for the next few nights - armed with paper and a calendar. - a plan is what I hope to create! One thing I want to do is share it with everyone so that suggestions can be made and we can be held accountable!!!!!

As of today we have 12 more weeks before due date (Nov 2th).

Baby is doing great - growing like normal.

Mommy - well.....we found out last week that I have gestational diabetes. The first two days I was miserable. They had me on too much medicine but they have cut that back now so I'm doing much better. On a pretty strict diet so we've got to really plan out our meals (which is something I've really wanted to do anyway!).

I will try to post some pics soon - working off of two different computers.

We are slowly getting things ready for Ms. Trinity. We do have the storage building cleaned out and the kitchen is now ready with room for a high chair and baby supplies. Next week I'm going to get her bathroom ready and we will actually start cleaning out what will become her room. (something both Mike and I have both been dreading!!!)

You never know how much stuff you accumulate until you need more room!

Well guess I will go for now..I'll post more later.

Sorry I haven't posted in awhile (again!). This pregnancy has really "kicked my butt". Well I am 23 weeks along and everything is going great!

Oh by the way....

IT'S A GIRL!!!!!!!

Trinity Nicole will be her name.

I'm going to try to get some pics up - I've gained approx 10 pounds - all tummy too! My midwife says that I'm so short waisted that I will be carrying everything up front. She has a strong heartbeat and is growing right on schedule. I go back in three more weeks to do the diabetic testing! Yuck!

Hubby has been very busy working on the building and house getting things ready. This past Saturday we cleaned out our storage building so that we can now begin on cleaning out our storage room that will become Trinity's room.

Work has been the normal - busy and stressful. We're getting ready to start working on next years budget (oh what fun!) and we are recruiting for another doctor.

All the animals are doing good - Nicki is more spoiled than ever, Lucky and the cats too. We do have one horse (Rascals) that we are nursing a leg injury on - but all in all they are all doing good!

My brother has a new girlfriend who has two children and the 8 year old has stolen the families heart!! Mom and Dad are getting in practice for becoming grandparents!

Our church is getting ready to open a 2nd location soon. Our (first) small group is currently reading and doing a study on Frances Chan's "Crazy Love". Last weekend was our first discussion and it was pretty awesome....can't wait for this coming Saturdays discussion.

We'll guess I will go for now and I'll try to do better staying in touch!! Sorry again!!!

Well I've been away from bloggy world again. The tiredness hasn't gone away. After working all day, by the time I get home, I'm beat.

Monday will start our 15 weeks! We are out of the first trimester. We go June 2nd to find out if it's a girl or boy! We are so ready we want to be able to call it by it's name instead of just "baby".

We have chosen "Joshua Michael" for a boy and "Trinity Nicole" for a girl.

I'm still doing good - no sickness! No more scares, etc. We went back to the doctor last Thursday and we got to hear the heart beat again. This time while listening we heard a "swooshing" noise. The baby was moving. It still not big enough yet for me to feel but our midwife stated it was going to be a mover!!

My mom is still buying stuff. She's a yard sale addict! We already have a bathtub, some outfits, blankets, etc. She's loving it!!

On other news..

It has been officially a year since hubby was laid off. There are no engineering jobs out there in our area or surrounding areas anymore....really no jobs at all. Its hard to talk to anyone that hasn't lost their job or been on short time. This area has been hit hard. I've been asked by so many if I'm scared...I mean here we are on one paycheck and having a baby...my answer is "NO" I feel absolutely blessed! I mean we tried for 8 years to have a baby....God knows what he's doing and we haven't went without anything. He continues to supply our every need and then some!

I've cut back on my long hours...trying to stay in the 40-42 hours a week. Anything more than that and I'm just not worth a hoot! Its not as stressful as before. We've now been with Novant for 1 year officially May 1st.

We have started redoing some of the home to start making room for the baby. You don't realize how much "junk and stuff" you have until you start going through everything. We still have a long way to go and the time is just clicking away!!!

Well better go for now and get some breakfast!

I know it's been awhile since my last posting. I'll try to update as much as possible before supper is done!

I'm now at 12 weeks in the pregnancy! 1st trimester almost done! It's hard to believe only 6 more months! It's passing so quickly. I'm doing good. I've started getting my energy back. I was sick this past week with what we believe started as allergies/sinus issues but turned into bronchitis.

We go back to the doctor next week so I'll have more info then hopefully!

I've gained only 5 pounds since finding out I'm pregnant! My midwife wants me to gain 25-30 pounds - and this hard to deal with after years of NOT trying to gain weight! My eating habits have changed - only real cravings have been "tomatoe and/or tomatoe products"! I'm so ready for the gardening season!

Ball season has started again. Mike had a tournament this past weekend and I didn't get to attend due to being sick. boo! hoo! Still no luck in the job department for Mike but God is providing! And who knows what God has planned for the future! He's also getting ready to have a full plate with fixing the home for baby!! Much to his enjoyment! HA! HA!

One of our small groups (Crazy Love/Mad Hope) just did our first ever "Bumper Crop". We handed out 130 bags of groceries to various needy neighborhoods in our community. This was very awesome. Also this coming Saturday we will be holding a "special" yard sale (more info later on!)

Our main small group "The Gathering", next month, will have been meeting for 3 full years now! That's pretty cool!

Also next month, my work will have joined Novant for a full year. This means that I have been a practice manager for a year now. The job is still stressful but at least it is managable now. I do enjoy what I do and that's a major plus!

Well mostly sleeping since the last post. The little squirt is draining all my energy. I've talked to several ladies who says this is normal! Just a few updates...

Had a scare last weekend with a little blood so I went this past Tuesday to get everything checked out even though my original appointment wasn't scheduled until March 30th. While we were there my midwife went ahead and did a complete exam along with sono pics (see below).

Everything is in perfect shape and working order. The blood issue was pretty normal - she thinks it was the actual implementation of the egg to the uterus. The little baby is the size of a peanut (without the shell). There was a strong heartbeat.

This all made everything pretty real! We are real excited!

So far there has only been one day of queasiness/morning sickness. I'm eat saltines before getting up each morning just to make sure!

My life changed since my last post...

No not due to the stolen wallet - even though parts of that has been a pain.

Guess what?

I'm so happy to announce....

I'm pregnant!!!

After 8 years of "trying" - God has blessed us with the gift of a child!

I'm still in shock........I keep waiting for someone to call me and say..I'm sorry your blood test was wrong! But it's true...I'm pregnant!

I'm excited, scared, happy, etc. etc.

We had pretty much given up and was looking into adoption/fostering (I still think this is in our future - just maybe waiting awhile longer!). All weekend I figured it was just the stress from the stolen wallet but then on Monday at lunch I decided to take a urine test at work.

I was shaking so much after getting the results. I had to call my doctor into the room and ask if I was seeing this correctly. He said yes...but they have been known not to be accurate. So I called my husband and we went to the hospital immediately to have a blood test and well.....I'm pregnant!!

I know our life is getting ready to change...and change drastically! But it is all in God's hands and I trust in Him!!!

Desperate Times.....Desperate People

As the economy gets worse, I'm afraid things are going to get rough. This past Friday, we realized that my wallet was stolen. I was changing out purses (something I like to do often)Friday morning when I realized my wallet was missing. My husband told me that I probably had left it at work. I didn't think much about it but when I got to work and looked around it wasn't there. So I started tracing my steps. I had it at a meeting on Wednesday at lunch because I got some change out for a drink. I called that office and had them check. They didn't find anything. I started having a really weird feeling. So we pulled up our account online and that's when we seen it. Already two charges had hit that we knew we hadn't done. So we immediately called the bank and confirmed where those charges had been from, etc. I knew then that my wallet was stolen. It happened sometime between Wednesday at 2:30pm to Thurday at 3:00pm (that was when the first charge appeared). And we are leaning more toward Thursday morning.

During those times, I was at work, home, church, home and work again. No where else. We've filed a police report and are waiting for the investigation. Hopefully we will know more on Monday. They told us that were the card was used, they have good security cameras so....we're waiting.

They've used alittle over $400. Our work has been pretty crazy and I haven't been at my desk alot. My husband keeps trying to cheer me up and for me to see the positive side. It's by God's grace that it wasn't worse. I could have been mugged, beaten up, etc. I wasn't around when it happened, I'm unharmed. At least physically. However I'm really trying to deal emotionally. I almost feel alittle violated. I mean someone had to come into my office, stick their hands into my purse. They were close to lipstick, my brush, my meds, my cellphone...I know this sounds weird but it's just made me feel really uneasy.

I now worry about my identity (they have my social), my home (they have my drivers license with my address), etc. I now have to go replace everything. Medical cards, dental cards, membership cards, etc.

The funny part is I tried to go to get new drivers license on Friday before having to go to a meeting for work. The officer gave me my report number and told me to take it to the DMV. Not sure why....when I gave it to them - she immediately asked for two forms of ID. Uhmm...excuse me...I just told you my wallet was stolen! She said I could use birth certificate, a blank check, passport...Yeah like everyone usually carries that stuff with them! My nerves were alittle shot at this point so I just said to forget it. I'll try again on Monday! Jeez!!

I am thankful that it was just the wallet that was stolen and that it wasn't worse. I just wonder though how rough are things going to get. How many people are going to quite depending on God and start doing wrong things that will cause innocent people to get hurt or worse. I worry about my mom (she works in a different city and travels in the dark alot). I worry about my cousin, she lives alone most of the time. I worry about so many people.

I hope that soon we will see some relief until then I just keep praying and trusting in the Lord!

Eating right and recipe

For 2009 (as always) we are trying to loose weight and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Right now I'm really trying to get in my veggies and make sure hubby's getting his. I love vegetables so other than time being a barrier it's really no problem for me. Hubby however is not a veggie person! So I'm trying to disguise veggies into his meal.

I'm not sure where I got this recipe but it's pretty good. We both love potatoes. Either done as fries, hot chips, mashed, baked, etc. I'm trying to limit my potatoe intake and I remember I had copied and saved this on my pc.

"Chips" Instead of potatoe it uses a butternut squash. They don't get really crispy but they are good dipped in ketchup and still have the same texture as fries. Hope you enjoy!

one butternut squash, peeled and sliced into chip size shapes
sea salt
Olive oil Pam spray

Preheat oven to 450 degrees. After peeling sqash and removing the seeds, slice into chip shape (you could also do fry shape if wanted). Pat dry with a paper towel to absorb any excess moisture. Place squash in a bowl and add a light mist of nonstick olive oil spray. Sprinkle with salt. Toss squash to evenly distribute oil and salt. Lay flat on a baking sheet that has been sprayed with olive oil. Bake in a oven for 20 minutes or so, flipping halfway through baking time. Fries are done when they start to brown on the edges. Use ketchup for dipping.

A Good Day and A Dog

I know I haven't posted in awhile - not since our first snow. We've had another dusting earlier in the week.

But yesterday was a good day. After work, I came home and then Mike and I packed up the doggie and headed to the local park to walk around and play. It's been really pretty here. In the 60's. Makes you want springtime!

Today, we started out cleaning house and we had let the pup out to play in the back yard. Here is what we found one time when looking out for her....

We have the mud hole that no matter what we do it always come back. Right where we park our cars. This winter it has came back so we'll work on it again this spring.

So we decided to take her to the father-in-laws to run in the pasture and play in the creek! We ended up packing our lunch and taking it with us. We are currently ending the evening by cooking dinner together while the pup is knocked out on the couch snoring!

Just enjoying God's creation and each other!

I sit here listening to a politic channel on tv about todays events with our new president - Barack Obama. This is the first time that I've actually sat and watched the events of an inauguration and been inspired, motivated, excited and not walk away feeling disgusted, ashamed, or doomed.

You either love him or hate him - whichever you feel....you must realize that we are on a path for change - Change to help others instead of bulling or bombing them - Change to help those that have been forgotten - change how we view each other - change how we think about environmental issues......

There is a saying at my church that "if you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always got!"

That has been the way of our government for most of my years on this planet - To always do what we have always done in the past. I think many people are tired of getting what we've always got..............and starting today we will no longer be doing what we've always done!

Today was our first step on the path of change. We have already began doing something different...And it's okay.....Change is good!

Got home alittle earlier from the vet's with my dad. His dog, Sable, got the all clear from Dr. Pete. Here stitches were removed. She has to continue to wear her "lampshade" for 2 more weeks just to be sure that she doesn't lick he wound so much. I'm hoping this will help ease Dad's nerves some. Thanks for the prayers!

2008 is gone but definately not forgotten.

Last year held many ups and downs for us. But regardless of the direction....Christ has been right there with us the whole time. We are so blessed!

I don't even try to know what 2009 will hold for us but we will continue to trust in Him and lean not into our own understandings.

Prayer Request

Just a quick note.... Please say a little prayer for my dad's dog, Sable. They took her to the vet last Wednesday (on my dad's birthday) and she had a surgery due to a tear in her rectum. They got to bring her home this past Friday. Our normal vet is out of town this week and Sable is starting to have a few post surgey issues. If things aren't better tomorrow at lunch, dad's taking her back to the office to see the doctor that is covering for our normal vet. So I ask that you say a prayer for Sable and also my dad! Thanks

Wow…I know I say that a lot about God…but words can not explain how I feel. He is just so awesome!

So many times I let the world enter my mind and then bang! He presents a sign to get me back on track.

Why do I disbelieve?

If you are normal reader of this blog, you know our desire to adopt. So much worldly things has happen this past year – from the stress of my new position to hubby being unemployed. I have constantly been on a rollercoaster of feelings. One minute I feel excited and I’m researching about adoption and then life happens and time slips by with nothing happening. There’s time I think…..we’ve waiting too long and now it’s not going to happen or it’s not suppose to happen….then I let little worries pop up like what if we start the process and then I get pregnant – all that money gone!

Regardless of the worldly things that keep attaching themselves to me – GOD IS ALWAYS CONSISTENT!!!! He continues to provide signs in the least unexpected ways. In October it was Steven Furtick’s message at the Catalyst.

Today it was in the form of a present from a special friend (Billy – if your reading this it will spoil your note in your Christmas Card!) We have known Billy for quite some time. He’s one of those friends that is friends with so many of the family members that he just feels like he’s always been apart of the family. We didn’t get to meet up like we have done so many Christmas’s in the past – time just got away from us – so he left gifts with my aunt/cousin – and they brought them just now to me at work.

I had just realized that I needed to take a lunch – and after being sick this past week and just feeling blah about life – I decide to go ahead and open the gift while waiting my lunch to nuke.

Wow (again there is that word!) What I opened wasn’t just a gift – Billy has no idea how God has used him as another means to ensure me and motivate me regarding adoption. I don’t know that I’ve even ever really told Billy about our thoughts/plans/God’s signs for us to adopt – he may have read everything through here – whatever or however he knew – his present has me still in tears.

You see part of the gift I unwrapped is a book called “ The Adoption Decision – 15 things you want to know before adopting” by Laura Christianson.

Just when I was feeling all blah about life – this innocent gift – wow (that word again!) what can I say…..

But THANK YOU BILLY for this precious gift and THANK YOU GOD for continuing to ensure me of what I heard a year ago!!!!

Hey everyone....It's been awhile. After making it through Thanksgiving and the first part of December without catching every ones cold....Last week....I was sick. Stuffy head, barking cough, etc. And then end of this past week - hubby gets a kidney stone...but God is good - past it the next day! However he's in bed this morning with a stuffy head.

Christmas is just a few days away. I love Christmas - everything about it! Decorations and lights, Church programs reminding us of Jesus birth, Beautiful Christmas Music, Fellowship, Home cooked Food, etc. The whole month of December I feel so excited but then when it gets down to a few days before...I get....well I'm not sure the word to use? Anxious? Nervous? Uneasiness?

Both sides of our family (mine and my husbands) always has some sortof drama! I guess I just don't understand why families can't truly love one another and respect one another - especially for one day out of 365.

Sometimes it's silly petty drama like someone did or didn't show up or they brought someone with them! And then sometimes it's really silly and petty, like some one's feelings get hurt because everyone liked this persons dessert better than theirs! But then sometimes (this is where I have to bite my tongue!) it's serious......

You see unfortunately we have some folks in the family who uses these times of getting together to talk about why they feel the world is so bad! It wouldn't be so bad if it was a talk about global warming, animal cruelty, how the world has made Christmas so about stuff and money...but no it's ignorance talking!

It goes something like "because of the Mexicans taking our jobs....", "great, now we have a black president", "well if "they" would get off of welfare...", "if all our jobs didn't go to China...."....etc, etc, etc.

Each holiday this type of discussion happens. I've bite my tongue alot and try to turn conversations to something else. Last Christmas I promised myself...no more. In the past I've not wanted to cause conflict at Christmas. I would get sad and depressed over the situations.

But this year....well I'm just so tired of the prejudice, the self-centeredness, the "I'm better than you" way of thinking and tired of people always pointing the finger at someone else instead of taking responsibility.

I know that one reason for feeling this year needs to be different is that hubby and I are planning to adopt (could even be a soon as this new year!). We haven't settle on from where...could be from the states, from Africa, Mexico, China....only God knows. We just want to do what the Lord has told us to do. A year ago, he told us to adopt. If we do happen to adopt a child from a different country whose skin color is different from ours.....I don't want them to be around this type of talk or way of thinking....especially coming from family and at Christmas!

Another reason is this past October we signed up with Compassion (more about this later) and we are supporting a beautiful child from Colombia. We feel like until we get other areas in our life in order - this is one step of helping children/adoption. How can I support this and allow this type of talk to go on? Isn't that being alittle hypocritical?

How can I stand by and listen to this ignorant talk? I've prayed all month that this doesn't become an issue this year! But what if it does? Do I speak out?

I sortof feel by not speaking out then the uneducated will never be educated. That the ignorance and self-centeredness will never change. That those that "don't get it", will never have a clue?

What's your thoughts and suggestions?

This evening I've been trying to catch up on my reading of blogs.

Really makes you think. For the past two years, we have really "cut lean" our Christmas list. This year more than last, since we are down to one income.

The cool thing is our families have been on board with this. Instead we want to spend more "time" with them - talking, eating, laughing. This is what memories are made of not "stuff".

Clutter Busting!

Guess what we've been doing for the past two days?

Cleaning out our building. We are still trying to get rid of "Stuff". It's been sortof nice outside and we figured we wouldn't be getting too many of these days since winter is setting in.

We took 6 bags (leaf and lawn size bags) of "stuff" (clothes, shoes, household items, etc) to the Salvation Army yesterday evening.

This has also helped in realizing just how much "stuff" accumulates in a household. We've still got more to go through...but we're on the right track!

Yeah you read the title correct!

We started going to the gym this week. My husband is doing and wanting me to do the "Body for Life" workout plan. Today was lower body. Every step I take, my legs scream in agony. Okay maybe that's alittle of the drama queen coming out in me.

We're getting to the gym around 5:30 every morning (I know...only crazy people are up that early - and to work out?). It's actually been pretty fun working out together.

As for work...I am out for 4 days! Yeah! We also are going to be in the parade Monday evening (another symptom of the craziness disease!).

It's hard to beleive its the holidays already. but I'm very ready for turkey tomorrow - and potatoe salad, green beans, etc!!!

Nikki (our 9 mth old pup) was 87 pounds two weeks ago when we took her to the vet. Earlier tonight I laid a blanket in the floor with pillows to watch a movie. I got up alittle while ago to call my mom to confirm time for tomorrow and I have lost my place on the floor. She's laying stretched out on my blanket with her head on my pillows...probably drooling! Oh well...as long as she's comfortable right!

It started off with Tim Saunders (founder of Yahoo). He talked about creating an environment of abundance – of giving. That together we can do so much more. Abundance is an essescence of faith. He told us to take our values to work with us. Values of compassion – community.

Then he talked about “contagious compassion”. That we need to just love people, to give them hope. To create a “ripple”. You know how you can drop something into water and from the point of contact of the item to the water, a ripple is created through the whole body of water.

We can do this at our home, at our job, at church, at the grocery store…..the ripple effect. Show someone kindness, compassion, love and watch it become contagious!

Next speaker was Dave Ramsey…he talked a lot about our economy and how if we would just follow Christ’s financial plan, then we would not have fear in today’s situation. Fear is not a fruit of the spirit. Fear is driven by emotion and is what is running the world today.

Media will only report what is bad which causes fear in people. When people have fear, they panic.

We need to use our spiritual knowledge and know that we are okay. That God will provide our needs!

After lunch we were introduce to Matt Chandler from The Village Church in Texas. He talked about how we need to not just “know of” God but to really “KNOW HIM”!!!

We need to glorify God in all we do.

He stated that we didn’t need to know Him in hopes of getting further in life, for more money, more blessings but to know Him to glorify Him!

He told us to examine ourselves – that were our organizations (church, job, even family) is weak – that is where we are weak!

Then to finish day two – Andy Stanly came back out and wrapped up.

Almost done with day one, next speaker was awesome! This speaker was what I needed.

Steven Furtick.

He talked about having "fresh wind, fresh fire." Have a vision!

Promise ---- Process ---- Payoff

We get these promises from God, We see the vision (payoff) at the end, but somehow we get lost in the process.

1 Kings 18:41-48
And Elijah said to Ahab, "Go, eat and drink, for there is the sound of a heavy rain." So Ahab went off to eat and drink, but Elijah climbed to the top of Carmel, bent down to the ground and put his face between his knees. "Go and look toward the sea," he told his servant. And he went up and looked. "There is nothing there," he said. Seven times Elijah said, "Go back." The seventh time the servant reported, "A cloud as small as a man's hand is rising from the sea." So Elijah said, "Go and tell Ahab, 'Hitch up your chariot and go down before the rain stops you.'" Meanwhile, the sky grew black with clouds, the wind rose, a heavy rain came on and Ahab rode off to Jezreel. The power of the LORD came upon Elijah and, tucking his cloak into his belt, he ran ahead of Ahab all the way to Jezreel.

Our promises start small but if we believe and have faith (look at the vision)- Be faithful in the process, we will achieve the payoff. We just have to make sure that during the busyness of the process, we don't forget about the promise, instead hold onto it! know that God will be with us.

Elijah "heard" the rain -he was told there was a small cloud in the distance (not a large cloud-a tiny cloud) & he believed it was going to provide the much needed rain!

I really needed this. Almost a year ago, I heard God call us to adopt. We got really close to starting the process... one reason I took the managers job was to help with adopting... then our life changed with Mike loosing his job. Over time I sort of gave up. I lost sight of the "payoff" and I forgot the "promise".

A day before the conference, SteVen changed his original message plan. The message he gave left me speechless so emotional. After he spoke, I could not speak. God used Steven to tell me me not to give up.... to have faith... to believe... to not forget the promise!!

wow.... just what I needed.

Sorry that it has taken me so long to finish writing about the catalyst, work has been pretty crazy. We stopped in the pm of day one. Next up was Jim Collins. He was introduced by a school bus being driven out due to his topic being on “having the right people on the bus.” He talked about we needed to be a culture of discipline. That instead of being the one constantly trying to do it all by yourself, have the right people on your team (in your bus) then they will help you. Have the right who’s and they’ll worry above-the right what’s.

He then told us:
-about the diagnostic tools we could use with our teams at Jim Collins.Com
-to ask ourselves: Farrow many seats do we have on our bus? And are the right people in the seat?
-Build your own personal “board of directors: These would be individuals who were Keep you accountable, keep you honest, and keep you real.
-Keep young people around you! Listen to them, keep them in your face, give them chances & try their ideas.
-Ask questions & listen - instead of always giving orders
-Take off days with no electronics (ouch-sorry!!)

Refinished up by saying we can not always do radical alone; so get the right people on you bus!!

Have you read “The Shack”?

If not, you need to…..it is one of the most interesting books I’ve read for fun in a long time. I’ve been reading mostly “self-help” books – I feel I need a lot of this!!!

But when we were at the beach I started and finished “The Shack” in two days. At the catalyst this year they actually had the author – William Paul Young there and interviewed him.

He considers this book to be a parable of sorts. He wrote it for his children, never expecting it to become on the best sellers list!!

He considers “the shack” being a metaphor for the heart of a human being. It’s our house on the inside that we don’t want anyone to know about – our secrets, our addictions, our messes!

Again…..if you haven’t read this book and you are looking for something entertaining and fun to read – get this one!

Our next speaker was Jim Collins. He talked about ensuring you have the “right people on your bus”. How this can make a difference on how things flow. To not worry about the how’s and what’s – that if you get the right who’s – they’ll take care of the how’s and what’s.

He told us to:
•Make sure that most of the “seats on our bus” are filled with the right people.
•Build a “personal board of directors” – these will be your mentors, those that will keep you accountable.
•Get young people to help
•Ask questions instead of always giving answers (or orders)

Day one actually started off with a light show, a demonstration from the national "stomp" squad, and then of course the Catalyst band and Steve Fee (who was awesome!) started the praise & worship.

They immediately pumped you up ready for today. Our first speaker was Andy Stanley. He talked about how we as leaders can influence people which we have no official authority over. For example: parents have official authority of their children...government/law has official authority over citizens. But as leaders (even at a job) those around you (who you lead) are there by choice. They choose to go to church where they do, they choose to work where they do, etc.

I loved the way Andy stated that as leaders we desperately need to have moral authority. This is where our creed matches our deeds. Creed being what we stand for, what we say we stand for, etc matches our actions, our walk, etc.

Our walk matches our talk.

Our private life and our public life align.

When we think about our church, we think about leaders and volunteers, however we don't think about our workplaces like this. Yet every employee has a choice in where they work and if they are going to come in to work. Different things may help them (or make them) make that choice. But in the end, it is their personal choice and will.

Andy talked about the three areas we can improve in our life to ensure we have moral authority:

Forgiveness
Family
Finances

Whether at church or at a job, we need to make sure we have forgiven. For one we are commanded to forgive by Christ who has forgiven us our sins. We should hold no bitterness. We all have been hurt and will be hurt, we just need to release it to Christ and forgive those that hurt us. Andy stated that this is one of the most boldest leadership moves a person makes - to get on your knees and realease any and all bitterness to our heavenly father.

The next one was hard for me - Andy asked us if our families were being neglected because of ministry and/or our jobs. That we should prioritize our families (under God) but over work, ministry, hobbies, etc. Family is a very special gift from God and that we should not allow them to get our sloppy leftovers of our energy, time, thoughts, etc. His one statement has stayed with me all weekend and so far this week....

Proritize the role that no one else can play over the roles anyone can play.

Wow....No one can be Mike's wife, My parents daughter, my brothers sister...these roles have been given to ME!!! But anyone can be the practice manager at DU, apart of the women's ministry at church, etc.

Then he wrapped up by talking about our finances. He told us to have our "house" in order. Our storehouse. If God has provided to us, to not be a hypocrite. To not take advantage of what we have been given. To be respectful and good stewards. That in order to lead generous people (time, money, energy, etc) - we must be generous leaders.

He talked about the economy and what America is facing right now. If more Christians practice Biblical money principals, then their would be no fear at this moment. The Bible teaches us to Give (to God, to others), to Save, and then to live on the rest. So many times, when the paycheck is put into our hands, we first pay our bills, buy the things we "think" we "need?" and then give to God (and if there is anything left then maybe to others). We have it backwards.

This is something that we've been experiencing in our own lives and it's awesome. When Mike lost his job, we did not change our tithe amount - we actually increased it. We have not wanted for anything. Yeah I may not get pedicures anymore, I go extra weeks before getting a hair cut, I may not have the most "updated/in style" outfit of the season, my vehicle is 11 years old (but paid for!!!), etc....but I am so richly blessed!!!! It's because we give to God first, others second, and then live on what's left!

One of the first messages that we heard from our preacher was about not being able to out-give God. He challenged us to try it. To try to out give God. It's impossible!!!

Did I say WOW!

I am so emotionally and mentally charged I don't even know what to say.

We are getting ready to go out to eat with some of Mike's friends from online that have sold everything they owned to live in a community housing project for a year. Today is their sabbath where they can go out on their own.

The last two days have been so emotional (especially today!), so renewing, and so rewarding. I can't wait to tell you all about it....but for now Mike's rushing me to get ready so it will have to wait.

We're Here!!

Wow...We are here (well at the hotel anyway!) at the Catalyst Conference. Just waiting till it's time to go to the center. I'm almost in tears right now. I know you probably think I'm crazy but I have looked forward to this for so long and my mind and body is in so much need for this.

Our family is back at the house taking care of our home and babies while we're away so I have no worries, I'm away from work (and even though I can be in contact by my "crackberry") there is no stresses.

I am just so ready to get this show on the road. For the past three years, God has provided me with this opportunity to be renewed, restored, and refreshed by the Catalyst. There will be loud Christian rock (makes you feel like a teenager at a concert again!!), wonderful inspiring speakers (top two is Craig Groshel and our own Charlotte boy - Steven Furtick), and just fellowship with so many new and known individuals.

I'll try to post more later to keep you involved with what allthat is taking place....wish you were here!

Enough is a enough

Okay....sometimes enough is enough!

I bet you think you are getting to ready to read something about stuff, or simple living, or abundance.....sorry to disappoint ya...but this is more of a venting post!

Today (well if you look at the time....yesterday) we went "live" with a new electronic records system at the doc's office. We actually worked all day (8am to 7pm) Saturday in preparation for this.

We knew that it was going to be new, be change, and be stressful....however we forgot to mutliply that by 10!!!

The system - alot to know/learn/memorize but we know we'll eventually get the hang of it.

Our patients - understandable, one reschedule but was cool with it, we gave them cookies and drink!

Our doc - nervous, antsy, pestered us alittle more than normal but manageable.

Our so called "support" - bullies, controlling, their way or no way, overbearing, suffocating, arguementative...and I could go on.

I was constantly reminding myself in the afternoon that God commands me to love them. So I continuously prayed that He gave me the strength and knowledge to do so and to honestly just take control and make me do it!!

I felt (and still feel - we have 7 more days with them!) so bad (mad, sad, hurt) for my employees. You see our office is small and we all get along so well together. I really feel like my staff is my family. So today when I seen some in tears, it broke my heart, made me defensive, and made me want to fight for them. These are individuals that I spent most of my days with. We don't have the backstabbing, gossiping, and meaness that alot of offices (medical or non-medical) have. We each geniunely love each other...our flaws and all!

So when we have two individuals that come in and bark orders at my staff. Crowd over them and tell them what they are doing wrong.....I say "Enough is enough".

I even feel like it's okay to feel this way alittle bit - as long as I don't use it to hurt or destroy others but instead of a time to love the "hard to love", build up my staff and let them know that they are important and valuable to our office, and I feel this will be a time for us to bond together even more.

I just got through writing each one a small notecard expressing how important they are to me and the office and stating that we will get through this! I've really tried to make this experience fun - we actually had door prizes and gift bags (thanks Natalie!!!) and of course....food on Saturday. I know this isn't much but I am a manager and I do love my employees. I want them to be happy! I don't want anyone bullying them around....

One thing that is scarying me right now is that I am scheduled to leave for the leadership conference in Atlanta on Wednesday. I worry about "my gurls" at the office but I will stay in touch - not because I'm all corporatey but because I want them to enjoy coming to work as much as possible (and I want to have a staff on my return).

So tomorrow and throughout the next few days, if you get a chance, say alittle prayer for us....to have patience, understanding, and love.

Tonight after everyone left the office, I let the tears flow freely to release the stress and feelings from the day flow. At that moment my husband called. I didn't give him alot of details other than it was a hard day. Alittle while later, he texted me the follow:

Jeremiah 29:11
For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

I know this verse fits both me and the office. I know that for myself, I am where God wants me to be. I wouldn't have said that a year ago - in the workforce with the stress of being a manager - no way!

But now I see...he has me there for this very time...to love and encourage the others in the office...to love the hard to love....to just "be" for others.

I have hope in Jesus and that alone is all I need for this season in life.....

Wow...Sometimes you have to take a moment, sit down, and just realize what all has happened in a weekend. Sometimes it's not the big plans, big happenings that leave you in amazement. Sometimes it's just the simple conversations. The relationships.

It's been almost a year (November 14th) that I posted about my Jesus moment and adoption (you can click here to read).

We've had alot of changes in our life (Mike loosing his job, me staying in the workforce at a stressful job, etc). We've both gotten a year older! (Tick, Tock - bio. clock ticking!)

This weekend God still is confirming to us that we will have children and I truly believe him. I still don't know when or how but I know without any doubt that we will be parents.

Saturday night at our small group (not even sure how we got on the subject) but a really good friend of ours asked us if we ever thought about having a surrogate mother. I think it kindof floored her husband at first, because he started questioning who did she have in mind. When she said herself, because she loved being pregant, I just sat there in awe. They have three beautiful children and we love the folks so much. The fact that she thought of us and would do this for us is just amazing. I've never thought about this possiblity but the fact that she would offer. She is so awesome. In the past, I've told my husband (when we were planning on taking me out of the workforce) that I wanted to spend time with her and the kids because I thought I could learn so much from her. She is an awesome mother (and wife) and FRIEND!!! I'm still amazed that she would offer.

Then today at our church's open house, a couple that we had met about two years ago, stopped to talk to us. She told me that she had read my blog and that she wanted to let us know that her three children were adopted. WOW! I didn't know that. They started out as foster parents for the children and when possible adopted them. Wow...fostering...that's another thing that I haven't thought of. I immediately came home and jumped on our county's website and read about requirements for fostering.

Wow....What can I say about our Heavenly Father....but wow!

I don't know how we will end up being parents, nor do I know when. But I do know and trust God. And I know that this is something He has planned for us.

We will coninue to pray and to just listen to God. He is awesome!

Wow 2008 has really flown by....

Fall is here! Yeah...I love this time of the year. The cool crisp air that makes your nose tingle when breathing in. Soup season! Fuzzy sweaters and boots. Pumpkins. Bonfires and chicken stews!

.......These are a few of my favorite things!

We have just 11 more days till we leave for Catalyst! Can't wait! I'm so excited!

At work we have just 9 more days till we go to our new electronic medical record system.

And 88 days till Christmas!

Meatless Mondays

I just got through reading a entry at Green Thinking Blog that talked about going meatless one day a week. That by doing this we could help reduce climate change and global warming. It states that meat production produces about one-fifth of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions.

Hmm....here's another small way to help save God's planet!

When I was going to the local Weight Watchers Meeting (noticed I said going to – no more – whole other thing to blog about) our leader became a vegetarian due to a book she read that discussed process of the meat we buy at supermarkets. She also did share with us some of the benefits in her hair, skin, and energy level by doing so.
I don’t necessarily want to become a vegetarian (not that anything is wrong with that) ….I just like my poultry and seafood too much.

Their was even a campaign called “Meatless Mondays”. Go over and take a look at their challenge. I would love to participate but I’ve got a lot on my plate. They do have some pretty good looking recipes. I think I’m going to steal their title for my Monday posts. Starting next week, I’m going to try to use this day as our “meatless days” (sorry babe..I know you wont be too excited about this – you’re a meat & potato man! – You’ll survive). I’ll keep you posted on how it goes.

I think I'm going to try the Oval Office Enchiladas next Monday.

GAS PANIC

It’s amazing the widespread panic that news reporters can create. This morning on my way to work, our local Christian radio station was talking about the “big” hype that has started on the news.

Supposedly society/government wants us to get all the gas we can because due to hurricane Ike and them shutting the oil refineries down – gas is getting ready to take a major jump in prices.

The radio announcers were talking about how this is society and the governments new way “of blaming God” for rising gas prices. When in reality, gas prices are driven by our government’s decisions and by supply & demand. So when everyone goes out today to buy their gas before prices go up - this increases the demand….so guess what…prices will go up!

I understand them closing the refineries down due to weather – I wouldn’t want the people working out there putting their life in danger. But they are only going to keep the closed for what’s necessary. They will be loosing money for as long as they are closed – so how to they keep their “books” and bottom line looking good – by scaring us and causing us to purchase more gas.

Gas prices after Katrina only went up by 70 cents per federal statistics……how much has gas gone up since Christmas?

The radio announcers were saying – instead of panicking and running out to fill your tank (and helping the rich keep their bottom lines looking good) – save gas. Stay at home this weekend – don’t use gas for the weekend! This way when you have to use gas next week to go to work, etc. You’ll have it. Spend time with the family – instead of running around town, eating out, etc. Have a picnic in your living room and play board games.

My husband use to always fuss at me. I would talk about how much money I saved by buying things on sale. He would say….it’s not really a saving if you didn’t need to buy it to begin with.

So stay home this weekend or limit your time in the car or truck – this will help with gas consumption.

I also look at it as being a little greedy…..here we are worried about gas prices going up and what it is going to cost us (the “me” factor as usual) and there will be folks who loose their home (their families safe place) and if this hurricane is really as dangerous as they say.....maybe even their life!

I plan to instead of worrying about myself and my money....praying for those that will be most impacted by this hurricane and believing that regardless of what the gas prices are - that God will take care of me!

Containers and Take Out

Over at The Happy Housewife Blog, there was a post regarding styrofoam containers used for take out versus taking your own containers. I’ve never thought about it but I really like the idea. For 2008 I’ve really kept my eyes open for small changes that I can do to help protect God’s wonderful creation. I asked my husband if he would be embarrassed if I did this….of course he said yes! He! He! This just makes me want to do it more!!!!

I do really hate getting those containers…except there is somewhere (not sure) where we have gotten food at from a drug rep at work that came in some really neat black plastic (not styrofoam – not Tupperware plastic) containers that we all fought over because they withstand multi-use. They had pop on and off lids. We didn’t heat up in them but the bowls were great for salads, etc.

Also Tupperware makes a container that collapses (Flat Out Series). These would fit neatly inside my over sized purses. So when my hubby wont share a meal with me (he hates this too!) I could just pop out my containers and have lunch for the next day!

So what do you think….would you be embarrassed if we were out eating and I pulled out my own bowls to take home leftovers in? You can be honest!

Missing in Action

Sorry guys that I've been missing lately. Life has been so hetic and crazy. There has been several times that I've wanted to post thoughts and ideas but couldn't get to this point. Then there's been time when I could get here and well.....after spending 10 hours a day at work on the computer looking at numbers for budget info...I was just too mentally exhausted to even think of getting online. While at the beach posting pics/video of the pup, I hit my 100th post. Yeah! Pretty cool! Last week we escaped to the beach with Mike’s family and we took the pup! Had a wonderful relaxing time. As I've mentioned before - I am a huge Steven Curtis Chapman fan - for so many reasons. The Chapman's have been in my prayers for awhile now. If you missed the Larry King Live show where the family talked about their tragedy - you can click below and see the segments.

Also check out the "after the show" segment. I think it's pretty cool to hear a worldly un-believer openly admitted to the Chapman's that he lacks faith and he doesn't understand their faith - and then during one of the breaks for him to say "wow, I wish I had your faith."

This family is an inspiration. They are strong in their faith and love.

When Mary Beth stated "When we went all the way down, when we hit bottom, the foundation was strong." I was in awe. I think about all the whining and complaining that I do just because I have a bad day. We are told to have the faith of a mustard seed......and here this family who is hurting and grieving is showing their faith to millions of people...believers and un-believers. They've definitely got more than a mustard seed.

I've got to work more on my foundation.

Here are 6 random things about me....

(1) I am a huge animal lover. We currently have two dogs, two cats, and three horses. At one time we nickname our place as "Stray Acres"!!! My husband tells everyone that he had to put his foot down...we have our last dog because of him!!! Babe....if your reading this....that's putting your foot down! HA! HA!

(2) I have OCD and a fear of fire. About to tell you more than most would share. I have this crazy routine that I do in the mornings. If I iron clothes before leaving for work, I check the iron at least three times before leaving. I check my curling iron at least three times (actually touching the outlet to ensure its not plugged up). I check the stove/oven before leaving the house (this is the freaky part - even when I haven't cooked in the morning) I know I'm a freak! I have issues! Ever since 1991 when I went to bed and my ex-husband just about burnt our house down cooking and then fell asleep. I'm paranoid big time!! Probably more info then you want to know...huh?

(3) I am a planner. I like my day to be scheduled and structured. I've gotten better over the years - I use to get really bent out of shape if my schedule was thrown off. Being married to my wonderful, loving husband (in case your reading babe!) has gotten me a little more relaxed. Five years ago we went to Florida to get married without telling our family. I had the trip planned from the day we were leaving to the day we came home. Hmm! Not with my hubby! He blew that before we even got to the Florida state line! He has helped me to relax and not be so anal!

(4) I am a mountain person. I like the beach but it's too hot. I like the mountains. I feel closer to nature. I like the waterfalls, cool fresh air, bubbling creeks, rustic homes. I'm about ready for a trip!

(5) I'm addicted to books. I love to read. I don't get to do it (for enjoyment)as much as I wish I could anymore. I have Christian books, self-help books, organization books, fiction, romance, etc. Whenever we build a house I want one room to be nothing but an office and library. I actually want wall to wall bookshelves filled with books.

(6) Last but not least.....one thing about me that I want everyone to know is that I am in love with Christ. I want every minute of the day fill with him. I am very blessed and I owe it all to him. In the past I've climbed the corporate ladder, tried to be all I can be, and do it all on my own.......I was miserable. The last five years of my life have been wonderful. I have a relationship with my Heavenly Father and my life is so full. Even when there is doubt, trouble, fear....as long as I turn it over to him, he will lift me above it all. No corporate ladder or even myself can do that. I am a princess to the King of Kings. I am in awe of Jesus Christ.

Ten Minutes

Wow...alot can happen within 10 minutes. I just signed off my laptop 10 minutes ago and since then....

(1) A spider tried to attack me as I was turning down the air. I have to have it cool in the house in order to sleep. Hubby had the air set on 72 - I always turn it to 70 before going to bed. I'm hot-natured, he's cold. Go figure. I went in the dark hallway and was going to hit the button when I felt something brush my hand. I flipped on the hall light and squealed. Hubby has gone soft. I told him to come kill this spider and he took it outside. And he use to be the one scared of spiders!!!

(2) I was going to put a load of uniforms in the wash to go through the cycle while I read my Bible and write in my prayer journal. I started the water running, sorted the laundry, and filled it up. At this point the washer actually started the processing....well kindof. The middle piece of the tub that turns the clothes - not moving. Hubby came and looked and told me to let the clothes drain, rinse, and drain again then we'll pull them out and see what's up. As we turned around....

(3) Our 5 month old puppy (she's approx 50+ pounds) is laying on our 13 pound cat. Just in the middle of the kitchen, she's laying on top of the cat. Poor Bobo is trying his best to get up and get away. So we both hollared (and of course broke her heart and hurt her feelings) and now she is pouting in the living room. Bobo is okay....just alittle frazzled!

(4) And since I've been typing....I hit some button and my screen supersized and I can't see the top.

Well I believe its time for me to go to bed before I do anymore damage for the night! All this within 10 minutes.....time does fly when everything is going south!

I love to cook and try new things. Unfortunately here lately I just don't have time to plan and do alot of cooking. Oh well....I'll get to one day but for right now our crockpot is one of my best friends!!

Overwhelmed. I feel this emotion alot - in my work, with clutter in my home, with family, with the animals. When I start feeling overwhelmed, I don't feel strong or courageous and I'm definately worried, afraid and get discouraged easily.

Why?

Why do we let the things of this world do this to us? For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.

Why do I limit Him? This verse is so true. He is so big. He is with me at all times. He loves me and will take care of me.

I really feel the need to memorize this verse because sometimes I forget! So this is the verse to memorize this week.

Rising up from the ashes.....

This is what the Chapman family is doing. Many of you know that I am a huge Steven Curtis Chapman fan for sooooo many reasons. His songs and stories have impacted my life, my marriage, and my walk with God.

This family is surviving because they truly are depending on God. If you go to “YouTube”, you can find taping of his latest concert. His first since loosing his daughter. I’ve been visiting his managers blog (Click here to visit) and watching as this family (and friends) grieve the loss of one adorable, amazing little girl.

In one of the Youtube videos, it shows him talking about and singing the song “Blessed by His Name” – he states that this is one of the key songs his family has used in getting through all of this. They continue to rely on, praise, and love God through this difficult time. To see them is to truly see Christ!

Part of the lyrics to this song state “You give and take away, but my heart will choose to say, blessed be your name." The strength this family has and is showing the world is truly a work of faith in the Lord. Allowing the world to see their grief and how they are believing and loving God is such a statement of their faith. They are truly an inspiration.

I love this verse - both versions! But boy is it hard to do sometimes. My brother is going through the ending of a BAD relationship. It's hard not to interfere. I see him hurting so much and being confused. I just want to control and handle the siutation.

I know that if I even try to talk to the other person - I will loose my cool (and temper). I will be fully human and say very mean, hurtful things. I know this is wrong and that regardless I am called to love this person.....but its hard!!

I ask you (my loving bloggy friends)to please keep him in your prayers.

And bro....if your reading this....know that I love you with all my heart and that I am always here for you. Also really read those verses above. I know that you do not understand why this is happening - you may never know the why - but trust in the Lord and He will take care of you and show you the way.

Weekend Plans

Wow....I'm definately glad there's no work tomorrow. I'm exhausted! Just being able to stay in pj's in morning, got some major cleaning planned. We went to the grocery store tonight so that we wouldn't be doing so much fast food this weekend and had it out of the way.

Didn't get to go to the barn today. But hubby did. Carago is doing great! Hubby and Doc seems to think that as long as we keep him completely out of the barn and grass/complete feed only we may not have anymore flare ups! That would be great!

My dad's having some problems. He babies our horses. He doesn't like not giving him hay and not stalling him up at night with the other horses. It's some adjusting he has to do.

I've been doing my verse reading and writing every morning. Almost got it completely memorized. Two more days and then we'll start a new one!

Just today and tomorrow and then I have a three day weekend! Yahoo! I defiately need it. I've been spending so much time at work and dealing with sick animals - I've neglected the housecleaning! So instead of cramming it all in one day (Sat) - I now get two!

Update on Carago: He is doing much better. The steriods and inhaler are working, along with the cooler air temps. I'm sure its going to be hot again right around the corner but this break gives him a chance to heal! God is good!

"So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness."

These are the verses that I'm concentrating on this week and I thought I would share them with you. I'm going to try to each week as I'm learning these verses, to post them on the blog and dissect them to life. I've highlighted the areas of action that are required by me. Throughout scripture Christ tells us how to handle life. So many times during the busyness of the days, I'll read scripture but not really look in detail at what it tells me to do.

Receive Christ Jesus as Lord - At an early age I accepted Christ as my Saviour but it wasn't until 4-5 years ago that I accepted him Lord of my life. I see many people that have accepted him as Saviour but do not understand that it is more than that. Submitting your whole life to him to be Lord over is the ultimate reward. I use to pray and talk to him when I needed - during those "bad" times. Walking with God on a daily bases is so much more than that. It's talking to him during the good times, the hectic times, the times when you don't know what to do, the times when you hear him tell you of something he needs you to do, etc.

Continue to live in him - In recent blogs I mentioned F.R.O.G. (Fully Relying on God). This is one way that I can continue living in him. Studying verses. Attending church to hear others discuss passages. Being active in my small group - not just enjoying the fellowship but actively taking a part during discussions. These are all ways for me to continue to live in him.

Rooted, built up, & strengthened in him- Just as when plants need nourishment, they draw from the soil through their roots - we draw our life and strength from Christ. The more we draw closer to him and the more strength we draw from him - we are built up in him and less from the world. By reading and studying His Word, talking with Him, Relying on Him - we built ourselves up in Him.

Overflowing with thankfulness - We are to be thankful in all situations with all things. Sometimes this is hard to do. I've been trying to look at every situation I'm in - good and bad - and thanking him for those. It makes me more aware of when I rely on him, look to him for answers instead of the world, I can see where I'm growing by the way I handle situations. Try this - even in the bad times - it makes the world of difference.

As I've gotten older, memorizing things have gotten harder for me. (Runs in my family!!!) I'm writing these verses down on index cards and keeping them with me. For the next few days, I want to rewrite this verse every morning - first starting here with the blog, then on post it notes and sticking them in my car, at my desk, on the mirror in the bathroom, on the fridge, etc. Ways that will help me to see them visual.

I want to be rooted in Christ. He has blessed me with so many miracles and blessings. I owe it to him to truly take to heart his word and to learn it. If you have any other suggests for memorizing Bible verses - please leave me a comment. I need all the help I can get!!!! Thanks!!!

We have rain!!!

Ask and you shall receive!

My family has prayed for rain for sometime now. The grounds are dry, the gardens are wilting, and the dust is consuming us. Our wonderful Heavenly Father has provided us with rain! It’s hard not to want to just go stand outside in it!

Update on Carago – this afternoon he is almost normal! God is definitely good! We are still on a round of steroid shots, a few more doses of antibiotics left and breathing treatments. Thank you for this wonderful blessing!

Hubby mentioned that I only updated regarding the last two days…..so thought I would come back since I’ve got nothing but time on my hands right now…..

Hubby still unemployed at this time. He has an interview Monday at 9am. I’ve been okay with him being out right now. God has continued to provide for us. We’ve spent more time at home, more time with each other and have broken several bad habits such as eating out every Sunday after church!!! Now when we go to eat out after church – its something special.

Working as an engineer may not be what God has planned for him. The reason I say this is that my husband has been given a special gift of “preaching”, “talking” (I’m not sure which to call it) and writing. He has spoke (and has a passion for it) at many wiffleball games, softball games, and even asked to do devotions for half-time at a children’s flag football game. He is so “alive” and “passionate” when he is preparing, working on, and doing a “talk”. He’s uncomfortable with calling it “preaching” for some reason. The neat thing is that I’ve noticed - he has a following! By this I mean, he has connected with a group of guys (and gals) that love to hear him speak. They really listen to what he says – because they ask questions, they research and discuss the things he’s mentioned with him and others. It’s really neat.

He’s also gifted at writing. When he was working he was doing a weekly “My thoughts”. Unfortunately for me, he would take things that was happening in his life (even the dumb things I sometimes do!!!!) and writing about how he sees Jesus in those situation or what he felt like Jesus’ was telling him during those situations. Basically he was sharing his life! He was allowing others to see him and how Christ is in and working in his life. Now this can be scary at times – because it means admitting that sometimes things happen because of our bad decisions or because we weren’t listening to God. This really makes you vulnerable and also it holds you accountable to what you do in your life.

So we’ll see what happens……If he is meant to work as an engineer, God will provide him one and if God wants him to do other stuff that will be shown. We’re just going to F.R.O.G. it! (Fully Rely on God!)

As far as a new house – we’ve still put it on hold. I’m not sure what we’re supposed to do. Originally we were thinking we were going to look into a modular home where we currently live and build a barn (we love our neighbors and we’re close to hubby’s parents, Winston, etc.) but it’s going to require a lot of money and time! After this weekend of practically living at my parent’s cause of a sick horse – we’ve actually thought about finding a place closer to them and the barn. If we do that, our horses can stay where they are – with Dad’s horses and we wouldn’t have to build a barn. So we’ll pray about and there again F.R.O.G. it too!

Adoption – I still feel that God has called us to adopt. He’s provided us with too many signs. We are now currently praying for God to show us if international adoption is the direction we are suppose to go or does he have other plans. Again F.R.O.G. this too!

My work is still busy and stressful but it is starting to develop a flow about it! I’m still working a lot of hours but I’m slowly cutting back a little each week.

Healthy living – I’m down to 166 ½! Which is great compared to the 178 I was back in November of last year! Still doing Weight Watchers – well trying to also. During the summer I do really good on the veggies – have a harder time with protein though. But hanging in there!

Simply living – We are still using our filter water pitcher and tap water – Huge savings since going this route! And we are not accumulating all those plastic water bottles. I still every now and then buy bottle water at a ballgame if I forget to bring my Sigg bottle already filled from our tap!

Other areas for living simple - We bought our containers last week to begin recycling. We are trying to buy less 2 litter bottles of diet soda and have gone to cans – you can find these on sale more and aluminum is easier to recycle and better for the earth. We’ve slowly started with couponing – haven’t quite got the knack for it yet. But we’re trying.

Update on the other animals - I’ll post pics soon of Nikki – she’s growing like a weed. We took her last week to the vet for the last round of her puppy boosters and she weighed 49 lbs. I was telling everyone she was 6 months old but actually she was born the week of Valentine’s Day – so she is only 4 ½ months old! Oh my!

She loves to cuddle and if hubby does go to work – I think both Nikki and hubby are going to have separation anxiety!!!

The two indoor cats (Bobo and Motts) are doing well – they’ve really gotten use to Nikki – their now to the point where they anticipate when she’s going to want to play with them. They hurry up and get out of her way!!

Lucky, our outdoor dog currently is having an ear infection, so hubby has to wash out his ear and apply meds daily with him. But otherwise he is doing well!

The other two horses (Jesse and Rascals) are doing well. We haven’t got to do much riding due to gas prices being so high and limited budget!

I think this covers everything….I’ll try not to wait so long to post next time!

Today

I know it’s been awhile since I’ve blogged. Life as usual has been crazy. I am currently on this Saturday morning, sitting out in my parent’s front yard. Our oldest horse is sick so we have removed him from the normal pasture with the other horses and temporarily fenced in the front side yard at my parents. It’s more shady there and cooler. It’s actually kind of relaxing. I’m not worrying about housework, projects, work. Not really able to do too much. I’ve got my laptop and a book to read. My hubby and Nikki pup is here also.

Currently my dad is in the house making salsa and mom’s cleaning. Yesterday we spent all day out here till about 9:30 last night and then we came back this morning at 9:30. Carago (the horse) is doing much better today. He’s currently has COPD and a bronchiole infection. The dryness and thick humidity isn’t helping him. I’ll definitely be glad when we get some much needed rain.

However there is a breezy blowing and in the shade it’s not too bad. Yesterday morning for work I had a (BORING – OVER MY HEAD) training class to go to in Winston regarding budgets. I was mentally drained when hubby called me and told me the vet was back out (2nd day in a row) and that Carago wasn’t doing well. By the time the vet left yesterday it pretty much was that the next two-three days would tell if he made it. He’s 28 years old – which in horse time is pretty good. He hadn’t eaten in almost two days.

So yesterday evening after finally being able to leave that training class – I came straight over. Once the vet left and we went to the drugstore to pick up more meds for Carago. I kept him on a lunge line in the shade for an hour. We did start eating grass but he kept having the sweats and breathing hard. We then strung up a temporarily fencing and as long as we stayed out there with him, he didn’t mind so much being away from the others. The other four horses would come to the upper pasture beside the house and check on him ever so often. I thought this was kind of cute!

By about 4pm I was able to get him to eat some grain as long as it was out of the scoop and I held it. I’ve hand fed cats and dogs before but never a horse. By 8pm, I had gotten him to eat 1 ½ scoops of his (senior) feed and we had completed all the meds for that day. He now has to stay completely out of the barn for good. He is to be completely pasture boarded only.

This morning so far he has ate almost 2 scoops of his feed and is now standing looking at us in the temp fenced area. I’ve spend all morning so far out here with him.

I’ve prayed most of yesterday – probably the longest time I’ve spend in prayer - and most of this morning. I’m not sure what God’s plans are. I do pray for Carago to be well if it is God’s will – I know that He is the Almighty Healer. But I don’t want to be selfish – sometimes I’m scared that I’m praying for this for my own benefit. As much as I love my animals I don’t want any of them to be struggling or suffering for my selfishness.

At the end of last summer, when we thought we were going to have to make the decision to put Carago down because of this same thing and that he didn’t look to be pulling back with the help of medicine. He went three days without eating. God gave me the strength and knowledge that it was time. We (my, my dad, and husband) met at the vet office. The vet was getting everything ready and we went ahead back to the barn. I was determined that if we were to make the decision, I wanted him out of the barn. He could barely walk. He would drag his hooves as he moved. We walked slowly together out to the back yard. My husband and father didn’t say much. I know they were struggling watching me and dealing with this.

I know that last year God performed a miracle for me. This is the most awesome feeling. To know that God had heard my prayers and blessed me! Someone who screws up a lot of the times, who doesn’t always do what is right, who is impatient in waiting, etc. He blessed me - He gave me a story to tell others! Carago was my Isaac. I was willing to let him go because it was best – and because God had provided me with the knowledge and strength to do so.

It was pretty awesome. I brought Carago out to the yard and within a few seconds, he started grazing on grass. He hadn’t ate or grazed in three days. We were all pretty quiet. Mike and my dad knew I had been praying for days. The vet pulled out and immediately stated that this was not what he was expecting to see. He checked Carago over and told us that it was not time for a decision to be made. Carago made a full recover. But this week, we could tell that his COPD was acting up.

We are so dry and our humidity has been awful. I know that if it is meant to be God will heal him. But I also know that I can rely on God for the wisdom to know when it is time. He helped me out before and will again.

It’s pretty awesome knowing that no matter what the situation is – sick animal, husband laid off from work, new stressful job, plans being put on hold – we can always and fully rely on Christ. For it is He who strengths me!

I’ll keep everyone updated on the turnout. As for today Carago has improved – as I type this he is picking up his feed pan, looking at me, and then throwing his feed pan at me! I think he is hinting that he is hungry!!!

Adoption & SCC

It's been one week since I've posted. This has been partially because I wasn't sure what to write. As many of you know Maria Chapman (daughter of Steven Curtis Chapman) left this world last Wednesday and is in the arms of our Heavenly Father.

Without even knowing him personally, Steven Curtis Chapman and the whole family has been such an inspiration to me. Last October while listening to SCC on a local Christian radio station do an interview and song, my life changed. He was the tool that Christ used to plant the thought of adoption in my heart and mind.

I've wanted to post something....but just didn't know what to say. I can not begin to imagine what this family is going through........

Our personal life has changed with my husband being laid off....but our desire for adoption has not. I know that God is still wanting us to adopt - He has provided signs and conformation in our life too many times.

Please keep the Chapman family in your thoughts and prayers as they go throught this difficult time.

Good News, Sad/Frustrating News, Prayer Needed

Hey everyone....I come to you with exciting news, sad/frustrating news, and prayer request.

First the good news - my cousin (who is also a member of our small group) had her baby today. A little boy, Mason Blake, 6lbs 5ozs. Both mommy and baby are doing great!! I stopped by the hospital to see them before coming home. Didn't get to hold Mason yet but I'm patiently waiting!

Sad/frustrating news - my hubby was laid off today. It was rather unexpected. We knew their work was getting slow and had heard of other areas that we to be effected but they have told hubby over and over that he would be safe. I guess that should have been the clue! Not to worry. I know God will take care of us and that he'll be able to get another job probably contracting soon. The cool thing about this one was that he was only about a block or two away from home. With gas prices, this will hurt.

So here is where the prayer request come in....please keep my cousin, baby, her husband and daughter in your prayers. I know there life will be changing with a new baby and just pray for them to be happy and healthy.

Also please pray for the other folks that also lost their job today. I know there was at least 3 others in my husbands department. Please pray that these individuals will find work again so they can provide for their families.

Also please keep my husband in your prayers. I don't know what God has planned for us but I know he will take care of us. I know that Satan would want us to be ticked, mad, etc. Just pray that we stay focused on God and his path for our life.

Speaking of life, the part that I'm struggling with on this new situation is that this will put a hold on our plans for a new home and adoption. Just pray for me to stay positive, keep the faith, and have wisdom to understand that regardless of what happens....God will provide and take care of us.

It's been awhile....quick update

Hey everyone. I know its been awhile since I've blogged. Thought I would drop a quick update.

WORK - We are now officially part of Novant Health. I'm in my new position as Practice (Office) Manager. I'm pulling long hours. I'm going in a 7:30am, taking about 30 minutes (if that!) lunch and leaving either 6pm or 6:30pm. I use to have Friday afternoon's off but have worked the last two so far. I'm hoping that once we start getting into a routine, maybe the hours wont be so long.

HOME - Ball season is back in for hubby. He's at a tournament now, played one last weekend, been playing on the city spring league for past three weeks and church spring league starts this coming week! Whew! I'm tired just typing all that!

NIKKI - Our new puppy is still growing. She's around 11 weeks old. I actually had to take her to the vet this morning. I could tell something was wrong. At first before the test came back, the vet was concerned it was parvo or that she had ate one of the cats toys. She was vomitting and had runny poop. She acted like she was miserable. Come to find out she has pin and tape worms. So they have given her some meds and she's acting alittle better now. She weighted 26#'s today. That's 6 more than two weeks ago. She's averaging around 3-4 pounds a week. She was a monster compared to all the other little pups in the office.

WEIGHT/BEING HEALTHY - I actually this past Friday joined the actual WW meetings at our local hospital. There from noon to one. I still have my online tools also but didn't have the accountability that I need from online. So I'm giving the actual meetings a chance now. My wonderful mother-in-law provided me with all my books and tools. The cool thing was that I weighed myself yesterday morning before getting dressed for work - 171. I knew that due to the busyness I hadn't been eating great. Hotdogs at the ballpark, etc. If I ate at all. I had a slim fast for breakfast that morning and then I went in to weigh in at the hospital. Mitzi's (WW Counselor) scale said 169.5...yahoo! I was so happy..and it's the first day. I have been thinking that I was stuck in the 170's forever. I got to the 169 mark a month or so ago but never expected to start off there when I went to the meeting. I was soooooo happppppppyyyyyyy! I'm hoping that now that I will be weighing in front of someone, I'll be inspired to really try hard no matter what is going on in my life.

LIVING SIMPLY - We are still using our filter water pitcher and have only bought bottled water once for a ball game. I've still got to purchase us some of the SIGG bottles to use. (hmm....may do right now while I'm thinking of it..) I fixing to go an start not buying 2 litter soft drinks so that we wont have the plastic. I'm going to go to cans - easier for me to recycle - my cousins (who works with me) father-in-law collects cans and then takes them to the recyclers for money. He has huge garbage bags in his garage. Monthly he takes them, cashes them in, and then puts the money in his two (soon to be three) grand kids banking accounts. I don't have the time (I know, I know....all you really true green fanatics, I should be doing this also to be thrifty....small steps first)but I can take them to her at work weekly and let her take them to her father-in-laws. I haven't planted a garden yet this year but that's okay...my father has gone overboard with the planting and since my mom loves to can what he grows, I'm trying to work up a way to buy from them. What better way then support your own parents and get good groceries at the same time!! I'm still hoping to plant a few tomato plants - I love tomato sandwiches! Yum Yum. I'm really hoping to setup a means to recycle paper and plastic better at the house in the next few weeks - any suggestions are welcomed!

Well we took the animals to the vet this past Thursday. Lucky has an ear infection that we have to doctor on for about a week. He's gained 10 lbs since last year's visit - but the doctor said it was good on him. Nikki has gained 8 lbs in the past two weeks. She's now 20 lbs at 8-9 wks old! I swear she is growing an inch every day. Bobo wasn't happy about going to the vet but did fairly well.

We go back in three-four weeks for another round of puppy shots and will be taking Mott (diabetic cat) with us this time.

Other updates in life is that my brother has a new girlfriend. Don't know alot about her just yet. More information later.

I've taken a break from stressing out over my food/weight issues. Starting to put in some long hours at the office...I'm ready for a vacation!!!

I've definately got spring fever...every weekend that we've had free and could work in the yard/garden it's rain...Not that I'm complaining - we've needed the rain. But I really want to grow something!!!

I've promised a bunch of you comparison pics of our new pup, Nikki. She goes to the vet's this Thursday - so I'll have a new weight on her and can tell you exactly how much she's grown. But here's two pics - One was on the first day we got her and the other is 17 days later. Big difference!!!!!
